Fast-track Highway

Issue 48, November 28, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 28, 2010: the government headed by Madhav Nepal despised by most of the Nepalis has highly hyped the construction of the Fast-track Highway linking Hetauda with Kathmandu, and making possible the travel from Kathmandu to Hetauda in slightly more than two hours against the current numerous hours to reach the area by road. Recently, the media have it that Madhav Nepal has made a quick inspection of the construction of the fast track but nothing tangible things have come to light except for Madhav Nepal’s inspection. The government has released hundred of millions of rupees to the Nepal Army for constructing the fast track but the results of using the money have not come to the public notice. The money must have gone to the pockets of Prime Minister and ministers concerned. Some Nepalis have already suspected whether the Fast Track will not be another Melamchi Drinking Water project that has sapped the hundreds of millions of rupees but nothing has practically happened except for building a road to Melamchi during the last twenty years.

A committee comprising members of Bara District Development Committee, District Forest Office, Nijgadh Area Forest Office, Fast Track Project Officer and different community forest groups has been formed to start chopping the trees in the forests area for clearing the way for the fast track road that forms the Kathmandu-Nijgadh section, writes Myrepublica.com on November 28, 2010. So, no matter what Madhav Nepal has been saying the progress in constructing the fast track has been limited to felling down the trees.
