NC President Says Be Prepare For Elections

March 4, 2013: Speaking at a press meet organized by Nepal Press Union in Birtamod of Jhapa yesterday, NC president Sushil Koirala urged party workers to prepare for elections as the country was heading to the elections. He said that his party accepted the CJ-led election government proposal with caution to hold elections and oust the incumbent government. “It is in the interest of nation to go for elections by forming the CJ-led government instead of damaging democracy which was achieved through long struggle and sacrifice” he said, according to the Gorkhapatraonline.com news of today.
Speaking with party workers in Jhapa on March 2, 2013, NC president Sushil Koirala said his party would not surrender to any forces in the name of a consensus if it imperiled democracy. Koirala urged all to be aware of UCPN-Maoist, which he said, was continually betraying the parties. The NC president accused UCPN-Maoist of interfering in Nepal Army, Nepal Police and civil service to use the state mechanisms in its favor, according to Gorkhapatraonline.com news of yesterday.
Opening the statue of Krishnasen in Ghattekulo in Kathmandu yesterday, Chairman of CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya Mohan Vaidhya said that he would not let the formation of a new government presided over by the Chief Justice, as it was being formed under the pressure of the foreign powers, and nowhere in the constitution has the provision for forming a government under the Chief Justice, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today.
Speaking at a press meet held by the Federation of Journalists-Revolutionary in Pokhara, Kaski yesterday, Secretary to CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya Netra Bikram Chand warned that a chief-justice-led election government would spell disaster for the country. Chand said, “If the election government is formed under the leadership of Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi, then the March 6 Nepal bandh might be an indefinite one,” according to the HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday.
Addressing a regular press briefing at the party headquarters in Kathmandu yesterday, Spokesman for UCPN-Maoist Agni Prasad Sapkota said the Constituent Assembly elections could be held within the first week of June even if the parties were to reach a deal within second week of March. Spokesman Sapkota said that the parties would strike a package deal soon and form an election government under Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi. Since the election commission has informed that polls could be held in 90 days and if needed the process could also be shortened, elections are possible within first week of June, he said, according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday.
However, Spokesman Sapkota accused the CPN-UML and NC leaders of not being serious about the elections but they were only active on replacing the existing Baburam Bhattarai-led government. “They have been going to different parts of the country at a time when they were supposed to sit for dialogues to sort out the differences,” Spokesman Sapkota said, such activities have given grounds for his party to suspect whether they would honestly let the CA polls happen.
Addressing the party’s Second District Conference in Basaaha‚ Udaypur yesterday‚ NC General Secretary Prakash Man Singh blamed the incumbent government for the prolonged political and constitutional crisis facing the country. He said that the Maoists were to blame for the demise of Constitution Assembly. “We tried our best to reach a consensus but due to Maoists’ stubbornness‚ we were compelled to accept the CJ-led election government‚” he said‚ “Now there is no alternative to election,” according to HIMALAYAN NEWS SERVICE of yesterday.
Laying the foundation stone of Out-patient Department (OPD) building to be constructed on the premises of Rajbiraj-based Gajendra Narayan Singh Zonal Hospital in Saptari yesterday, Minister for Health and Population Rajendra Mahato said that the country would end the ongoing constitutional and political crises within few days. Minister Mahato said that the nation would end the ongoing crises as political parties have reached close to a consensus.
