Prime Minister Koirala not taking a Chance
BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
The Nepali Congress Party submitted its sealed-list of candidates for proportional representation in the Constituent Assembly to be elected on April 10, 2008. The name of Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala topped the list. Obviously, Prime Minister Koirala did not want to take a chance of getting directly elected to the CA. It also indicates that he is not sure of winning the election if he contends for a direct election. So, he must have opted for the proportional representation seat that is sure for him to get elected.
Prime Minister Koirala made himself unpopular among the Nepalis calling for keeping the monarchy in one form or another. He came out strongly for saving the king, and advised the king to abdicate the crown in favor of the baby king and so on. Recently, he appointed his daughter Sujata Koirala to the Minister without portfolio for helping him in saving the monarchy. Certainly, he has been going against the current of Nepalese youths advocating for a republic. They are not for keeping the monarchy in any form, as the monarchy has been responsible for the exclusive administration and for the social, political and economical ills in the country.
