NA-US Army Conduct Joint Drill In Nepal

October 22, 2013: according to the Directorate of Public Relations of the Nepal Army,’ the Nepalese Army (NA) is all set to host the US Army for a joint drill focusing on disaster response training starting on October 22. The drill will be held in Kathmandu, Hetauda, Simara and Pokhara for one month, according to the news posted on the ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.
This kind of drill has been done since 2003, said the DPR. Two aircrafts of the US Pacific Command are arriving in Nepal for the purpose, said the army. These aircrafts take light cargo and require the minimum runway.
The aircraft will arrive with US Army personnel and equipment necessary to conduct training. Around 300 NA and 60 US Army personnel will join in the training and the drill.
The main objective of the drill is to develop the NA’s capacity to manage the international assistance for disasters. The drill is on the combined NA and US Army parachuting to simulate a disaster response, light search and rescue with helicopter support.
The NA and the US Pacific Command recently completed a Disaster Response and Emergency Exercise in Kathmandu.
