Students Shut Down Petrol Pumps Protesting Against Price Rise

Issue 38, September 22, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 16, 2013: students’ unions such as Nepal Students Union (NSU), All Nepal National Free Students' Union (ANNFSU), and All Nepal National Independent Students' Union-Revolutionary have jointly shut down all private petrol pumps for three days starting on Sunday protesting against the price rise of the petroleum products.

Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) had increased the price of petrol by Rs 5 per liter, kerosene and diesel by Rs 3 per liter and aviation fuel for domestic use by Rs 7 per liter on September 10.

The students’ organizations have launched the protest after the talks between the students’ leaders and the NOC officials failed, as the NOC officials clearly stated that the prices of petroleum products have to stay as they are.
