Vehicles Returning Back To Nepal Electricity Authority

On February 23, 2010, speaking to the reporters, Executive Director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Dr. Jibendra Jha has said that the NEA has asked for refund of Rs 10.02 millions from the office of Prime Minister for the Pazero jeep Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has been using; the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority has returned a Pazero jeep on Monday, February 23, 2010 according to the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of February 24, 2010.

Deputy Chairman of Nepal National Staff Association NEA Branch Ajitman Tamang has said that the NEA has been making available costly vehicles to different VIP people on the verbal order; they have been using 29 vehicles so far; former Prime Ministers and NC leaders Krishna Prasad Bhattarai and Sher Bahadur Deuba have been using the NEA vehicles; similarly, the office of Prime Minister has been using two NEA vehicles and the Ministry of Energy have been using three NEA vehicles according to the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ of February 24, 2010.

Some offices have started returning the borrowed vehicles back to the NEA after the NEA staffs forcibly seized the vehicle used by senor leader of CPN-UML KP Oli last week. Mr. Oli has changed the yellow license plate means belonging to the state-owned company to a red license plate means privately owned.

NEA staffs have said that they would seize any vehicles used by other agencies whenever and wherever they find them. The NEA has accumulated loss of Rs 12 billon and has been thinking to increase the electricity tariff to cut the loss but other VIP people have been using highly costly vehicles at the cost of NEA.
