Bringing Murderers Of A Reporter To Justice

January 6, 2013: the Nepalese police arrested allegedly murders of Dekendra Raj Thapa: the reporter based in Dailekh, killed eight years ago reportedly for writing news that went against the then Maoists. The Dailekh police arrested Lachhiram Ghartimagar: one of the accused from his home on Thursday, January 3, 2013, and Hari Lal Pun, Bir Bahadur KC, Nirak Ghartimagar and Jaya Bahadur Shahi following his statement, writes RSS today according to the news posted on thehimalayantimes.com

In a joint statement issued in Surkhet today, the Federation of Nepalese Journalists (FNJ), Press Chautari Nepal, Revolutionary Journalists' Federation and Progressive Journalists' Association welcomed the arrest of the murderers of journalist Dekendra Raj Thapa killed some eight years ago. They demanded immediate investigation into the case and bring the perpetrators of murder of journalist Thapa to justice.

They also called on the local civil society, political party, local residents and stakeholders in general to help the police in the investigation process, and urged the political parties in particular not to intervene in the process of holding investigation into the case.

However, the UCPN-Maoist and CPN-Maoist had threatened local media persons with actions immediately after the arrest of the accused yesterday. Journalist Thapa was murdered on August 11, 2004 following abduction on June 26 the same year, according to the RSS news.

In the complaint, Thapa's wife had named Lachhiram as one of those involved in torturing her husband while in captivity and then killing him, according to nepalnews.com.
