Taskforce Formed To Set Fees For Private Schools

Issue 52, December 29, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 23, 2013: the Central Fee Setting Committee set up by the Department of Education has formed a taskforce comprising concerned bodies to propose the fee rise to be introduced by the private schools for the next academic session, according to the RSS news on ‘gorkhapatraonline.com’.

With the formation of the taskforce, private schools willing to increase the tuition fee can formally do so only in the next academic session.

Some people had lodged complaints about the private schools increasing the fee in the current academic session without the approval of the government following the government increasing the salaries of the State employee.

A meeting presided over by Under-Secretary Ram Sharan Sapkota yesterday formed the taskforce comprising representatives of the Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (PABSON) and the National Private and Boarding Schools Organization Nepal (NPABSON), the Guardians' Association Nepal and the District Education Officer of the three districts in the Kathmandu valley.

Chairman of the Guardians' Association Nepal Suprabhat Bhandari participated in the meeting, and said that the taskforce would submit a proposal for increasing the tuition fee after studying various issues including the fee threshold, scholarship, monitoring and teachers' salary among others.

Following the Education Regulations, private schools needed to submit the proposal for setting the fee at the concerned District Education Office three months before and get it endorsed by the District Fee Setting Committee.

The meeting directed the boarding schools to hold SLC test examinations scheduled for the third week of January following the norms of internal evaluation.  Students cannot be declared passed or failed following the SLC text examination, the meeting decided.
