Holding Parliamentary Session Hostage for Ransom Of Clarification

Issue 14, April 03, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

April 2, 2011: this time NC legislators have been sure to hit out at the Deputy Prime Minister Bharat Mohan Adhikari that has fired secretary to ministry of finance Rameshwor Khanal obviously for not agreeing to the deal Mr. Adhikari has reached with the defaulters of billons of rupees worth of value-added tax (VAT). NC legislators have held the parliamentary session hostage for the ransom of reasons for firing the secretary to ministry of finance. They have declared that they will not allow the Speaker to run the house session until they get the clarification from the Prime Minister for firing the secretary to ministry of finance that has spearheaded the investigation into the people that have defaulted on VAT that runs billions of rupees and the secretary has been determined to redeem the lost revenue but as soon as Mr. Adhikari has held the portfolio of the ministry of finance, Mr. Adhikari has put pressure on the secretary to forget about the investigation into the VAT defaulters but the honest secretary chose to quit the job rather than giving up his mission to redeem the lost revenue.

NC legislators need to continue hitting the Minister Adhikari that has clearly opted for getting benefits from the VAT defaulters at the cost of the redeeming the lost revenue that Nepal needs so badly. However, NC legislators also need to hit out at their colleagues that have been convicted of corruption and retrieve the money they have stolen from the state treasury and return it back to the state. Then, Nepalis will really appreciate for their fight against corruption. They also need to demand the government bringing former Prime Minister Madhav Nepal to justice for his fraudulent activities and for disregarding the rule of law and abusing the authority.

How Prime minister Jhalanath Khanal can make sure that the writing and promulgation of a new constitution can be done within the time that has been running short when his deputy indulges in unwarranted activities provoking the legislators to block the parliamentary session? Why the prime minister fails to clarify the matter in the parliament immediately and fire the minister if he has fired the secretary for not following the ill order the minister has given to the secretary?
