Completing Peace Process And Writing Of A New Constitution

March 10, 2011: speaking at a function held to mark the 101st International Women’s Day in Kathmandu on March 09, Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has said that he is committed to complete the peace process and the writing of a new constitution as scheduled, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today reports.

The sub-committee set up by the Constitutional Committee (CC) of the Constituent Assembly (CA) on resolving contentious issues has resolved majority of the contentious issues surfaced on “Determining the Structure of the Legislative Organs”, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. The sub-committee headed by Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda needs to resolve all contentious issues by mid March so that the CC can move forward completing the draft of a new constitution. The CA needs to promulgate a new constitution before its extended term expires on May 28, 2011.

Briefly speaking to the reporters on his way home in Manang, UCPN-Maoist Constituent Assembly (CA) member Dev Gurung has said on Wednesday, March 09 that the tasks the country needs to accomplish are the peace process and the writing of a new constitution; to this end, political parties need to build a consensus.
