Former Minister Gupta Involves In Kidnapping

January 17, 2012: Nepal Police have arrested chairman of Nepal Sadhbhabana Party (Anandidevi) Shyam Sundar Gupta from his residence at Siddhartha Nagar Municipality-5, near Bank Road in Bhairahawa yesterday allegedly for masterminding the kidnapping of a businessman Pawan Sanghai and getting ransom of Rs 8.5 million distributing Rs. 400,000 to each of the two men involved in kidnapping, and keeping the rest of money for the wedding of his son, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.

After the police have received sufficient evidences given by the accomplices, the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD), Hanumandhoka, Kathmandu issued a warrant to the Rupandehi District Police Office for arresting the Chairman of Nepal Sadhbhabana Party (Anandidevi) and the lawmaker informing the Speaker of the House. The police transferrd the lawmaker allegedly involved in kidnapping to Kathmandu for submitting him to the Kathmandu District Court.

Businessman Sanghai was abducted from Kamaladi Ganeshthan, Kathmandu on December 29, and was released after 21 days in captivity. His family claimed that the family had paid Rs 50 million ransom for the release of the businessman. However, the police said that Lawmaker Gupta had received ransom of Rs 8.5 million.

Lawmaker Shyam Sundar Gupta had been the Minister for Supplies in the Cabinet of former Prime minister Madhav Nepal. Former Minister Gupta had not said anything to the media so far. His party also had not said anything about his arrest and his involvement in kidnapping.
