Political Maneuvers In Nepal
By KTM Metro Reporter
June 30, 2013: in the height of fighting for the positions in the UCPN-Maoist, Vice-chairman Dr Baburam Bhattarai yesterday announced the suspension of his position in the party asking all the political leaders sincerely working for the party rather than seeking the party positions.
Entry of some influential political leaders from the rival political parties has led leaders to squabbling over the party positions. Leaders that had fought the 10-year people’s war have been deadly against giving top positions to the new entrants but the UCPN-Maoist party leadership has been for awarding the top positions to the guys coming out of other rival political parties. The party leadership has thought that bringing in the dissident senior leaders from other party to the UCPN-Maoist would strengthened it but it has rather weakened it causing the bitter fights for the party positions.
Chairman of CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya Mohan Vaidhya has submitted his political agenda on not participating in the elections to a new CA at the central committee meeting started in Pokhara yesterday. He called on the cadres of his party to disrupt the elections.
Speaking at the Reporter’s Club on Friday, June 28, 2013, Vice-chairman of CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya CP Gajurel said that his party would not participate in the elections and would not hold talks with any party, as it does not make sense to talk when the preparations for holding elections has been going on in the full swing.
He also said that his party would ask the state employees deployed to hold elections for not going on duty, and ask the people in general for not participating in the elections. He also said that his party would hold talks with the Chief of Army Staff not to agree on shooting the people not participating in the elections, the army was not of the four parties only.
Chairman of the Interim Election Council of Ministers (IECM) has not been able to hold talks with the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya, as leaders of the party don’t recognize the government formed by the four-party political mecahnism. They want to dissolve the IECM and set up a new one for holding elections.
Some political analysts say that the leaders of the CPN-Maoist-Vaidhya have been going against the elections to keep their party on the highlights. They have been trying to come to prominence talking against the elections, according to the political analysts.
Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda met with chairman of IECM Khil Raj Regmi at the latter’s official residence to talk about the progress made in talking to the dissident political parties. Chairman Regmi desperately requested Chairman Prachanda for bringing the opposing political leaders to a negotiating table.
