Nepalese Finance Minister for World Bank Support

On Sunday, November 30, 2008, Nepalese Finance Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai while attending the seminar on the 'Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development' held by the UN in Doha, Qatar meeting with Senior Vice-president of the World Bank Justin Lin on the sidelines, requested him for supporting the Nepal’s development efforts the Maoist-led government has made according to the local news reports.

Finance Minister Dr Bhattarai requested the World Bank for its budgetary support to Nepal for eradicating poverty, reducing inequality and integrating peace into development. He also urged the World Bank Vice-president to follow a flexible approach in formulating and adopting a Country Assistance Strategy considering the unique way of Nepal's transformation.

World Bank Vice-president Justin Lin in turn assured the Nepalese Finance Minister of the continued support of his organization for the Nepal’s development efforts and suggested him to create an environment conducive to modernizing the agriculture sector, attracting foreign direct investments and encouraging public-private partnership for enhancing the development in Nepal.

Finance Minister Dr. Bhattarai along with other two high-level Nepalese officials are attending the four-day seminar on the 'Follow-up International Conference on Financing for Development' held by the UN in Doha, Qatar starting on November 29, 2008. Heads of state or government, ministers and other officials from different countries are also attending the seminar.
