Home Minister’s Special Security Plan

Issue 32, August 9, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On August 3, 2009, Nepalese viewers have seen on the TVs how a few people have manhandled the General Manager of the Balaju Industrial Estate. On the same day, some students have similarly manhandled the Chief of The Tri-chandra Campus for not taking actions on arresting the CPN-UML-affiliated student responsible for shooting the NC-affiliated student in the heat of argument over the awarding of the civil construction job to a contractor of their favorite.

Home Minister Rawal knows that the traffic in Kathmandu has been chaotic because nobody follows the traffic rules, and the traffic police have been helpless to enforce the traffic rules. The traffic violators are the microbus drivers, taxi drivers and motorcyclists. Some microbuses have plastic cover in place of broken glasses; other buses have no backlights. When will Home Minister Rawal bring these criminals to justice? It seems that Home Minister Rawal has been preparing a special security plan rather than bringing the criminals to justice.

Home Minister has said that he will not tolerate criminals going free with impunity but his police have so far failed to arrest the criminal affiliated to his party. This is only one example but we have numerous examples of the YCL killing NC cadres and CPN-UML cadres, CPM-UML youth-force cadres killing both the YCL and NC cadres and the NC cadres killing both the YCL and the CPN-UML cadres. If the Home Minister is serious about not letting criminals go free with impunity, he has to start up arresting the criminal cadres of his own party and then the criminals of other political parties.

At the same time, the parliamentarians belonging to the NC and the CPN-UML have been speaking in the parliament politicizing the criminal acts of the YCL instead of asking the Home Minister to round up those criminals for manhandling the General Manager of the Balaju Industrial Estate and taking strong actions against them. This is not the first time the NC and the CPN-UML parliamentarians have done so.
