Issue 34, August 23, 2009
By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu
Starting on Saturday, August 15, 2009, the private gas-station laborers have shutdown the private gas stations demanding the eight-hour workday, and the minimum salary set by the government.
On August 16, 2009, the representatives of the government and the Petroleum Laborers’ Union have sat at the Ministry of Finance for talks but the talks ended inconclusively.
The pressure on the state-run petroleum pumps has increased tremendously. A long line of taxis and private cars is seen at the Police-run, Army-run and Cooperative-run gas stations in Kathmandu.
