Girija Says New Coalition Rumor Only

Issue 48, November 29, 2009

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On November 22, 2009, after the return from the medical checkups in Singapore, Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala gave the first audience to Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, and he has told the public through the political advisor to the Prime Minister that President Koirala has never said about a new coalition indicating President Koirala has been surely weakened even in his party, as the parliamentary party of the Nepali Congress has passed the resolution saying that the support for the current government will continue after Chairman Prachanda has said that a new coalition is in the process.

President Koirala must have assured Chairman Prachanda of forming a new coalition when they met in Singapore but President Koirala has no choice but to refute what he has said in Singapore after his parliamentary party did not endorse his thinking of forming a new coalition.

The widespread guess of a new political coalition was that President Koirala himself would led the coalition and would form a government under his leadership but he could not materialize it because of the opposition of the members of his own party.
