Government of Nepal’s One-China Policy

Issue 38, September 19, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter

September 14, 2010: China has set aside its one-China policy and signed off the Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement with Taiwan on June 29, 2010, and has been effective on September 12, 2010 according to the news posted on the Bloomberg.com

However, the Government of Nepal has been strictly following the one-China policy abusing the ‘gentleman agreement’ with the UN agency on letting the Tibetans passing through Nepal to India for visiting the most revered Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama. Nepal has been arresting the Tibetans crossing the border to Nepal and returning them back to Tibet violating the ‘gentleman agreement’ to keep the Chinese authorities happy. In addition, Nepal has denied the Tibetan exiles in Nepal to peacefully protest against the Chinese rule in Tibet thus abusing the basic human rights of Tibetan exiles in Nepal.
