Concerns Of Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai

Issue 52, December 23, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

December 20, 2012: “I was about to give resignation on November 22 but the ruling coalition UCPN-Maoist and United Democratic Madhesi Front (UDMF) stopped me”, he said, now the party wants me to quit the office without making sure the elections to a new CA,” according to the ‘THT ONLINE’ news.

Speaking at the press conference held at his Baluwatar official residence today, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai told the reporters that his party could not make a politically immature decision on forcing him to quit the office.

Prime Minister Dr Bhattarai said that the elections to a new CA were the yardsticks of his success or failure; so he would hold the fresh polls in April/May completing all the processes required for holding the elections within January. He also said that the leaders have been portraying him as the barrier to the formation of a national unity government but he was not.

Kudos for your courage and works, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, please stay on in power rather than turning over to one of the corrupt politicians, do whatever you can as a prime minister but convince your party colleagues of the need for staying on in power rather than splitting the party. You can stay on in power as long as you can keeping the coalition with the UDMF intact.

So far, the Federal Democratic Republican Alliance (FDRA) is for transforming the current government into a national unity government means the UDMF and other parties are with the prime minister. They have committed to remain with the current government.

If Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda were to force the prime minister to quit the office without making sure of holding elections to a new CA, Chairman Prachanda would go down in the history of Nepal with NC President Sushil Koirala and Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal as inept and corrupt leaders.

UDMF leaders have clearly told in public that they were not accepting any candidate selected by the leaders of the three major political parties: UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML. Similarly, chairman of CPN-Maoist Mohan Vaidhya also made it clear he was not going to support the NC leader for a new prime minister.

Clearly, the leaders of the three major political parties are losing the ground while trying to make the NC president a new prime minister.
