Self-burning Protesting Against Chinese Occupation Of Tibet

November 10, 2011: a Tibetan monk has attempted on setting fire on himself at the Buddhist holy shrine called Boudhanath in Kathmandu today protesting the Chinese occupation of Tibet
The monk poured kerosene on his body, and strikes a match but did not light, and went to the holy lamps to light his body shouting anti-China slogans according to a witness. However, other people there saved him from burning. The monk quickly disappeared. The Nepal Police have been looking for him.
While Chinese authorities have blamed the Tibetan exiles for glorifying the monks that have burned themselves but the Karmapa Lama Tibetan exile leader in New Delhi has urged Tibetans not to burn themselves rather preserve the precious lives following the Buddhist teachings.
The Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama has accused China of a “cultural genocide” repressing the Tibetan culture and Buddhism in Tibet.
China has been running the administration of Tibet with iron hands since the failed uprising of Tibetans in 1959, and the Dalai Lama fled to India.
Radio Free Asia has reported that Chinese authorities have taken two young monks belonging to the troubled Kirti monastery into custody without giving any reasons for arrest. Chinese security forces have taken several hundred monks from the Kirti monastery to secret destinations since a Kirti monk self-immolated in March 2011 beginning a wave of self-burning in protest against the Chinese rule in Tibet.
