General Convention of CPN-UML

On February 16, 2009, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) Jhalanath Khanal inaugurated the general convention of the CPN-UML in Butwal. Prime Minister Prachanda, former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress Party President Girija Prasad Koirala, Chairman of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum (MPRF), Upendra Yadav and other high-ranking leaders of other political parties attended the inauguration ceremony of the general convention.

Speaking at the mass rally of estimated 300,000 people, Prime Minister Prachanda pointed out the need for the consensus politics and said that he would take actions against any body indulging in illegal activities in the name of Maoists, and the cadres of his party, too.

Speaking at the same rally, former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress Party President Girija Prasad Koirala said that the Maoists needed to work following the consensus politics.

Addressing the mass rally, General Secretary of the CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal said that his party would take the middle path fighting against the extreme left of the Maoists and the politics of status quo of the extreme right of the Nepali Congress.
