Issue 35, September 1, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 31, 2013: a sudden shaking sound of our home woke us up at midnight yesterday. We realized it was an earthquake. It was not a minor one, as it woke up sound sleeping people like our neighbors and us. We rushed to the door but by that time the shaking stopped. We stopped short to going out of home. By that time, all our neighbors have been at the doorsteps. We saw lights were on in all the homes. Dogs were barking signaling something must have gone wrong. We came back to our bed. I checked our clock. It showed 11:40.

I was really frighten by the earthquake because of it was so powerful to wake us up at the midnight while we were so soundly sleeping. We anticipated anther minor tremor. It did not take a long time to come. We thought that we could sleep then.

Next morning, the Radio Nepal said that an earthquake of 4 and 5 in the Richter scale hit the Chinese territory about 100 Km north of the Dolkha district. The same radio in its 7:00 am news said that the earthquake of 6 in the Richter scale hit the Chinese territory about 100 kilometers from the Tatopani according to the seismological record of the Department of Mines and Geology.
