Nepalese Minister Traveling Without Visa

Issue 11, March 11, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

March 7, 2012: the immigration officials have stopped Minister for Tourism and Civil Aviation Lokendra Bista Magar at the Abu Dhabi Airport in transit on his way to Germany for not having visa for traveling to German for attending a conference in Berlin, Germany, the Nepalese media reported.

According to the media reports, the minister’s wife has a visa for Germany but the minister did not, as his personal aides did not submit his passport to the German Embassy in Kathmandu even though the officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have submitted a diplomatic note requesting the German embassy to provide the minister with visa. Diplomatic missions in Kathmandu provide state employees following such diplomatic notes.

Minister Bista has said that he has been put into the embarrassment following the failure of the officials of his ministry responsible for preparing travel documents in securing visa for Germany.

However, Minister Bista has received visa for Germany from the German Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) through the Nepalese Embassy in Abu Dhabi and made him possible to fly to Berlin on March 7, 2012, ‘The Himalayan Times’ wrote quoting the state news agency RSS.

Finance Minister Barshaman Pun has said that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Immigration have been responsible for the no-visa travel of Tourism Minister Lokendra Bista Magar; Nepalese diplomatic missions should learn lessons from this scandal, he has said according the RSS news.
