Election Commission Withdrawn Election Code Of Conduct

Issue 32, August 5, 2012

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 1, 2012: the Election Commission (EC) said the 12-point code of conduct issued previously to the political parties would not be applicable to the political parties, as it was obvious that the election to a new Constituent Assembly (CA) scheduled for Nov 22 would not be held.

The EC had announced that the elections to a new Constituent Assembly was not possible, as the certain laws remained unchanged even though the EC had timely requested the government to amend the laws for making the elections possible as scheduled.

The cooperation of the opposition parties was required for amending the laws but the opposition leaders had been hammering out for the prime minister to quit the office rather than going to the polls. Consequently, the possibility of amending the laws to pave the way for holding election on Nov22 had become illusive.

So, the EC had withdrawn the election code of conduct the political parties they needed to follow before the elections.
