Two Ordinances Issued Despite Protest By Opposition

June 19, 2012: following the recommendations of the government, President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav issued two ordinances: Mutual Legal Assistance Ordinance of 2069 BS and Extradition Ordinance of 2069 BS on Sunday, June 17, 2012 despite the opposition protest saving the image of the country at the international arena, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
Finance Minister Barsa Man Pun said that the issuance of the laws through the ordinance was the country’s obligation; the introduction of new law was necessary to include the provision for financial crimes in the law following the changed scenarios of the financial crimes.
Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (Central Bank) Dr. Yubraj Khatiwada said that the newly introduced laws avoided the risks of the country facing blacklisted in the international transactions; absence of these two laws could have adversely affected the flow of investments, foreign assistance and remittance to the country; the cost of trade would also go up if the country was blacklisted.
Enacting of the two laws has made the country formally a favored nation to discourage the money laundering and financing the criminal activities, and has saved the country from being a blacklisted nation in the international financial transactions.
