Performing Laksmi Puja In Nepal

Issue 45, November 10, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

November 3, 2013: Nepalis are celebrating the day of cow today. Early in the morning they have started making offerings to cows. They decorated the heads of cows with the garlands of marigolds, and then smeared the heads of cows with vermillion, and then they feed the cows with good foods.

In the evening, Nepalis believe that Goddess Laksmi visits their treasury. So, they make colored path from the main entrance to the treasury. They illuminate the path with lamps so that Goddess Laksmi will not miss visiting the treasury.

Nepalis perform ‘puja’ to the goddess at the night. They offer sweets, nuts, dry fruits, and different fresh fruits to the goddess. Some Nepalis keep the whole-night watch on the goddess.

Numerous flashing colored lights illuminate houses. The Kathmandu center is illuminated with decorative lights. The shopping malls, and departmental stores are wildly illuminated and decorated. Marigold garlands decorate windows and doors of almost every house.
