NC Lawmakers’ Aggressive Behavior In Halting West Seti Hydropower Project
By KTM Metro Reporter
April 2, 2012: The Sub-committee On Studying Irregularities In Hydropower set up by the parliamentary committee on Natural Resources has today said that it has found no irregularities in the deal of the hydropower signed off by the government of Nepal and the Chinese company called the ‘China Three Gorges Corporation’ (CTGC), and the construction of the 750 Megawatt West Seti Hydropower Project will move ahead, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
At the insistence of NC lawmakers such as Gagan Thapa and Laxman Ghimere on setting up a Sub-committee on studying the irregularities in the hydropower deal, the parliamentary Committee had set up the study sub-committee twenty days ago to study the deal signed off on Feb 29, 2012.
The local people have charged those lawmakers halting the work on the hydropower project with indulging such negative activities for not receiving the commissions as they had demanded, and had protested against such stopping the work on the hydropower project.
Coordinator of Sub-Committee Gagan Thapa has justified his negative deeds on the hydropower project stating the halting of the work on the project has been absolutely necessary while carrying out the study to make clear the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Energy and the Electricity Board, and whether they have violated their jurisdiction or not.
NC lawmaker and Member of Sub-committee Laxman Ghimire also has tried to justify the halting of the work on the project simply questioning whether the Ministry of Energy could act on its own violating the provisions, ‘The Rising nepal’ of today writes.
These NC lawmakers don’t mind keeping Nepalis in the perpetual darkness if their interest in the project is not met. This time, most probably these NC lawmakers have to give in to the pressure of the people otherwise they would stop the hydropower project in questions. In the past, too, when the NC was in power these NC lawmakers had killed a number of projects including the fast track between Kathmandu and Hetauda because they did not get the commissions.
