Lokman Singh Got What He Wanted

May 8, 2013: President Dr Ram Baran Yadav approved the appointment of Lokman Singh Karki to the chief of Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) today. Lokman Singh Karki took the oath of office and secrecy of the office of the chief of the CIAA from Acting Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma in presence of President Dr Yadav at the presidential residence today morning immediately after the approval of the president.

 

Kayo Devi Yami took the oath of office and secrecy of the Chief of Public Service Commission (PSC), and Bhanu Prasad Acharya of the Auditor General from Acting Chief Justice Damodar Prasad Sharma at the same event.

 

Members of the civil society protested against the appointment of Lokman Singh Karki at the presidential residence while the oath of office was administered to Karki. The police took some of the civil society leaders in custody for about two hours to stop the possible chaos at the presidential residence.

 

Students protesting against the appointment of Karki went on a rampage, and attempted to damage some state-owned vehicles but the police stopped them from vandalizing the vehicles. Students also shut down the traffic protesting the appointment of Karki today.
