Setting Up Association Of Former PLA Members

April 28, 2012: in order to bring all former Maoist fighters under one umbrella, UCPN-Maoist has set up an Association of Ex-PLA (AEP) on Friday, April 27, 2012, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes. Opening the first national assembly of the AEP in Kathmandu, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist said, "You should continue to work for social transformation by getting involved in constructive and productive works in the society."
The first national assembly of the AEP has formed a 151-member central working committee coordinated by Former PLA Deputy Commander Nanda Kishor Pun Pasang, and has designated Former PLA Spokesperson Chandra Prakash Khanal Baladev as the spokesperson for AEP. About a thousand state committee level members of the ex-PLA: both who took voluntary retirement and those who were not verified by the UN Mission in Nepal (UNMIN) and the YCL: the Maoist youth wing have participated in the assembly, ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today writes.
In addition to Chairman Prachanda, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha, party secretary and Energy Minister Posta Bahdur Bogati, party standing committee member Krishna Bahadur Mahara and another standing committee member and Finance Minister Barsha Man Pun spoke at the assembly.
"This organization will struggle for institutionalizing the political achievements made so far and fight against any conspiracy against peace process and constitution writing process," spokesperson for AEP Baladev told the reporters.
The Vaidya faction of UCPN-Maoist had set up a People’s Volunteers Committee comprising former PLA members two days ago. Thus, the UCPN-Maoist has two parallel organizations of former PLA members. Members of the Vaidya faction did not show up in the AEP.
