Opening the Ninth general assembly of the Civil Service Employees’ Association in Kathmandu today, dubbing his party a patriotic, democratic and progressive one, Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal hoped that the CPN-UML would be elected as the largest party in the upcoming CA elections, according to THT ONLINE of today.
Chairman Khanal needed the votes of ethnic groups and Madheshis to make his party largest but logical thinking ethnic and Madheshi leaders have already left his party, as the policy of his party has been against the ethnic groups and Madheshis.
The CPN-UML has appealed to the leaders and cadres defected to other parties. The party has assigned the general secretary: head of the three-member taskforce to negotiate with the defectors, and bring them back to the party, according nepalnews.com. Politburo member Ram Chandra Jha and former lawmaker Lakki Sherpa defected to the UCPN-Maoist. Vice-chairman Ashok Rai and a number of Janajati and Madhesi leaders left the CPN-UML, and set up a Federal Democratic Party, according to Nepalnews.com
Chairman of CPN-UML Jhalanath Khanal has said that the UCPN-Maoist leaders would not allow the slated Constituent Assembly elections to happen until they were sure to win, according to the news posted on nepalnews.com. Addressing a politburo meeting at the party’s central office in Balkhu yesterday, Chairman Khanal said that that was the reason for not holding elections in June. Chairman Khanal said that the election would be held in October or November this year, as many legal hurdles and technical problems have made elections impossible in June.
President of NC Sushil Koirala in his address to the ‘Mahasamiti’ yesterday said that if his party were to lose the upcoming elections, then the country would be doomed, according to the news in ‘gorkhapatra’ of today. The country would not be doomed by the loss or win of any party but surely the NC would be doomed if it were to lose the elections.
