US Assistant Deputy Secretary of State Meets Prachanda

On January 19, 2010, US Assistant Deputy Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Patrick Moon has met with Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda at his Nayabazaar residence. During the meeting Prachanda has urged the US envoy to remove the name of the UCPN-Maoist from the terrorist-watch list of the US, and treat any other political parties that have been working on peaceful political activities; in turn the US envoy has said that the US has been working on removing the terrorist-watch list according to the Maoist leader Krishna Bahadur Mahara

On January 18, 2010, speaking to the reporters after the meeting with Prime Minister Madhav Nepal, US Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia Patrick Moon has repeated his government’s support for completing the peace process and writing of a new constitution, and urged the Prime Minister to work for the consensus politics for achieving the twin goals of writing the new constitution and completing the peace process.
