Calendar Of Integrating Armies In Nepal

Issue 24, June 12, 2011

By KTM Metro Reporter

June 7, 2011: working even off the schedule on Monday, the Army Integration Special Committee (AISC) has been seriously working on the army integration and has made some decisions on the calendar of integrating the army yesterday, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.

Speaking to the reporters at the office of AISC in Kathmandu yesterday, Prime Minister and Chairman of AISC Jhalanath Khanal has said that the first decision made by the AISC is to send the monitoring teams to 28 cantonments to be reached by June 10, 2011 for completing inspection, supervision and guidance of combatants by June 20;

The second decision is to complete the modality of integration such as the standard and number of combatants to be integrated, and complete the package of voluntary retirement and rehabilitation by June 19;

The third decision is to complete the recruitment of four surveyor’s team members; hold training for them and then assigned them to the cantonments by June 24.

The army integration is one of the major parts of the peace process but the setting up the Truth and Reconciliation Commission is equally important for giving justice to the victims of the torture inflicted by the state and the Maoists as well but nothing has been done to this end so far.
