Controversy Over Integration Of Two Armies

February 6, 2010, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist has said that the integration of People’s Liberation Army with the Nepal Army, formulation of a security policy and the writing of a new constitution should go on simultaneously; integration of the two armies before the writing of a new constitution is not acceptable to the UCPN-Maoist in view of the cheating characters most of the political leaders have shown.

At the same time, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that the integration of the two armies needs to be done before the writing of a new constitution, and the integration after the writing of a new constitution goes against the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

His Defense Minister has been telling the public that she would not accept the integration of the two armies. Similarly, acting NC President Sushil Koirala has been telling the public that the integration of the two armies will invite a civil war.
