Opposition Political Parties Dispensable

Issue 32, August 11. 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

August 8, 2013: leaders of the four-party political mechanism pretended to talk to each other on the demands put forward by the opposition political parties at the meetings held yesterday. However, some leaders of the four-party political mechanism have openly said that the elections would be held without the opposition parties; other indirectly said that their political cadres would chase away the election–opposing cadres. Some others have said that they will stick to the election date of November 19 for holding the elections.

Speaking at the interaction with leaders of civil society and intellectuals held in Pokhara yesterday, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda said that the elections to the second Constituent Assembly (CA) would be held on schedule at any cost even if the CPN-Maoist did not participate in the elections, according to the RSS news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonlne.com.’

Chairman Prachanda said that the 11-point agreement and the 25-point ordinance would remain intact; the current government would hold the elections as scheduled. Some amendments to the agreement and the ordinance could be made if the opposition parties were to be serious.

Talking to the reporters at Biratnagar Airport yesterday, Chairman of Madheshi Janadhikar Forum-Democratic Bijay Kumar Gacchedar said that the political problems would be resolved within a week. He claimed that the elections to the Constituent Assembly (CA) would be held on November 19 as discussions with the dissenting parties were underway, according to the RSS news posted on ‘gorkhapatraonlne.com.’

Mr. Gacchedar believes that the opposition political parties including the CPN-Maoist, and the Federal Socialist Party would participate in the elections to the CA, the four-party political mechanism has held talks with the opposition leaders including Mohan Vaidya, Ashok Rai and Upendra Yadav.
