Are CA Members Sane?

Issue 29, July 20, 2008

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

Are Constituent Assembly (CA) members rational? If you have watched the CA session of July 13, 2008 you probably say no, in view of the behavior of the CA members. Keeping aside all of the matters of the national importance, they shouted at each other blaming each other of killing a district education officer in Terai on Saturday, July 12, 2008. Their shouting does not fit to their status at all. They did not behave as honorable even though they address each other ‘honorable’

If all of those so-called CA members were sane they would simply demand the impartial investigation into the criminal case and let the Law Court rule and pass judgment fit to the crime perpetuated by someone.

Whether Nepalis could anticipate the writing of a new constitution of Nepal by such elected CA members has been the question to be seriously asked. If they would continue to behave as hooligans in the CA session they surely would not write a constitution at all. They simple would consume the so scarce national resources and fight against each other during the life of the CA. This is nothing but political violence at the CA reoccurring after the Madhesh-based CA members held the CA hostage for 12 days. In this case, Nepalis might need another revolution to do away with such CA members.
