Issue 31, August 4, 2013

By KTM Metro Reporter

July 29, 2013: responding to the breaking of a model ballot box by the general secretary of the CPN-Maoist, in a statement issued in Kathmandu yesterday, the Election Commission (EC) has said that nobody should do anything going against the election code of conduct, if anybody does means s/he is subject to the legal actions.

General Secretary of CPN-Maoist Ram Bahadur Thapa ‘Badal’ has demonstrated in public how he is going to disrupt the elections scheduled for November 19 hitting a model ballot box by a sledgehammer breaking it into pieces. The CPN-Maoist has been advocating to disrupt the elections stating the elections to be held by the government formed by an unconstitutional means will not be legitimate and will not resolve the political crisis in the country.

Anybody has rights to participate or boycott the elections but nobody has the rights to stop others exercising their rights to participate in the elections and vote for the candidate of his/her choice; if anybody obstructs others to exercise others rights then it becomes the human rights violation means a serious crime subject to serious legal actions.

The EC should immediately take the legal actions against the man breaking the model ballot box, and stop anybody from doing such things in the future. It is a serious crime, and such a crime should be dealt seriously with.
