No Alternative to Current government: PM

Issue 07, February 15, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On Monday, February 9, 2009, speaking at the mass rally in Phidim, Prime Minister Prachanda said that there was no alternative to the current government at least for two years to complete the crafting of an inclusive constitution and to sustain the peace process. He also said that the opposition party and foreign reactionary forces have been active to tear down the government headed by the Maoists.

On Sunday, February 8, 2009, speaking in his hometown Biratnager, Former Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Girija Prasad Koirala had said that he was not trying to pull down the government but Prime Minister Prachanda had been inept, so he was looking for an alternative Prime Minister, Former General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist and Leninist (CPN-UML) Madhav Kumar Nepal was the alternative person to head a new government. However, NC President Koirala forgot that Nepalese voters had rejected Madhav Nepal in the both constituencies he had contested in the elections for the seat in the Constituent Assembly.

Referring to the statement of NC President Koirala, Prime Minister Prachanda said that the statement of NC President Koirala has no truth at all; he had been saying such negative things because of his old age.
