It Could Happen Only In Nepal

March 12, 2013: Sherpas have celebrated the Sherpa New Year called Gyalpo Loshar a month ago but the government of Nepal is celebrating only today. President Dr Ram Baran Yadav, Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai, President of NC Sushil Koirala, and President of Madheshi People’s Rights Forum-Democratic Bijaya Gacchedar have extended best wishes to the Sherpa community on the occasion of New Year 2140, according to the ‘gorkhapatra’ news of today. Today is the government holiday for celebrating the New Year.
However, this year the Sonam Loshar celebrated by the Tamang community and the Gyalpo Loshar celebrated by the Sherpa community had been on the same day. So, both the communities had celebrated their respective Loshar a month ago. It so happened because of the lunar calendar but the government-sponsored calendar committee has assigned the Gyalpo Loshar one month late following the solar calendar. All the religious and cultural events are held following the lunar calendar in Nepal. So, the Sherpa community complained that the government had not listened to the demand of the community for including its representative on the government-sponsored calendar committee to make sure that such mistake did not occur.
