Issue 02, January 10, 2010

By KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On January 4, 2010, Chairman of the Constitutional Committee Nilambar Acharya has submitted a preliminary report on a new constitution to the Chairman of the Constituent Assembly so that he would be able to put it at the Constituent Assembly for debate over it.

After receiving the preliminary report on a new constitution, Chairman Subhas Nemwang has said that the political parties need to follow the consensus politics for promulgating the new constitution within the deadline set for it on May 28, 2010.

However, Nepalis have to be vigilant to the possible delay caused by the current government, as speaking at the university in Beijing during his China visit in the last week of December in 2009, Prime Minister Madhav Nepal has said that the government is for preparing the draft of a new constitution on May 28, 2010. Thus, Madhav Nepal is preparing for delaying the promulgation of a new constitution.
