Using Reporters As Intelligence

On October 7, 2009, the state-run newspaper ‘Gorkhapatra’ has reported that the association of reporters has opposed the decision of the Home Ministry on using reporters as intelligence under the special security plan of the government. Reporters have threatened to take the issue of the government making reporters as secret agents if the government does not roll back the decision, as it would discredit the reporters and even their profession. Reporters have charged the government of deciding to misuse the profession of journalism: the fourth pillar of democratic system of governance. Reporters have demanded the Home Minister apologizing to the reporters for attempting on discrediting the reporters’ profession.
