Appointment Of Lok Man Singh Karki To CIAA Chief B

Issue 18, May 5, 2013

y KTM Metro Reporter

April 30, 2013: the Supreme Court of Nepal has ruled on the petition filed against the recommendation of the four political parties for appointing Lok Man Singh Karki to the office of the Chief of Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) that the SC did not see it necessary to issue stay order on this matter, as the Constitutional Council (CC) has not initiated the process of appointing Karki to the chief o CIAA.

Since, the CC has not started any process for appointing Karki to the chief of CIAA, then what is the need for stopping the non-existent process. It does not mean that the SC has opened the gate to appoint Karki to the chief of CIAA. The SC will probably ruled on this matter again when the CC really starts off the process for appointing Karki to the chief of CIAA.

Kakri had been notorious for repressing the people’s movement as the agent of the king in 2006. The four major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC, CPN-UML, and UDMF had recommended Karki to the office of the chief of CIAA upon the receipt of a jackpot. Karki needed that office to demonstrate that he was not actually indicted by the CIAA in the past for the abuse of authority. Karki was one of the richest men in Nepal.
