By KTM Metro Reporter

April 6, 2013: speaking at a press conference held in Kathmandu on April 5, 2013, President of Federation of Nepal Chambers of Commerce (FNCCI) Suraj Vaidya said that FNCCI would secure the commitment of the government to the energy development in Nepal on the occasion of its 47th Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on April 10, 2013, and the federation would submit memorandums to the parties to make them obliged by the energy development, according to the news posted on the gorkhapatraonline.com today.

He said, “Development of energy is a single agenda of our annual general meeting because the country would not see economic development until the potential of energy sector are tapped. So, we want that the parties commit to this vital matter."

Cooperation and coordination among all political parties is needed for the economic development of the country, he said and added that they called on the political leaders to address the AGM by putting forth their views on the development of the energy and economic sector.

Vaidya said, “Nepal is the second largest rich in the water resources. But, we are unable to develop the hydropower due to lack of political commitment.” He said that it was necessary for the parties to commit to this matter because the carders of the political parties had disrupted many ongoing hydro projects.

The national and international energy experts and representatives from Asian Development Bank (ADB), International Finance Corporation (IFC), and foreign hydropower companies and government officials and private sectors will participate in the annual general meeting.
