CPN-UML Legislator Convicted Of Corruption

March 21, 2011: hearing on a corruption case filed by the Commission on Investigation into Abuse of Authority (CIAA) against CPN-UML Legislator Dol Bahadur Karki at the Special Court six months ago, a bench comprising Chief Judge of Special Court Gauri Bahadur Karki and Judges such as Om Prakash Mishra and Kedar Prasad Chalise has convicted him of corruption and has handed down a six-month jail term and a fine of Rs. 100,000 yesterday according to ‘The Rising Nepal’ of today.

CPN-UML Legislator Dol Bahadur Karki had taken one hundred banknotes of one thousand denominations from a man wishing to join the Nepal Police for influencing the police for getting him the job.

Mr. Karki is another politician going to jail for corruption after the Supreme Court of Nepal sent NC leader Chiranjivi Wagle to jail about a week ago. However, Karki might appeal to the Supreme Court of Nepal for reviewing the case.

Corruption cases against NC leaders such as Khum Bahadur Khadka and Govinda Raj Joshi, and RPP leader Rabindra Nath Sharma have been pending at the Supreme Court of Nepal fro quite some time.
