Myanmar Diplomat Resigns
A foreign ministry official for 10 years, Ye Min Tun has resigned from the position at the foreign ministry of the Junta in Myanmar as a protest against the treatment of Buddhist monks by the military regime during the last month's protests. He sent a letter of resignation to the Myanmar embassy in London. Ye Min Tun said, “I have never seen such a scenario in the whole of my life. The government is arresting and beating the peaceful Buddhist monks.” He said the Myanmar’s generals had suppressed the people's desire for them to negotiate with the opposition activists. The junta had killed 10 people including a Japanese photojournalist during the protest rallies in Myanmar. (BBC NEWS, Oct. 10, 2007)
