Gurkhas Renowned For Their Bravery

Inspecting Indian Army Pension Distribution Center in Pokhara, visiting Indian CoAS Deepak Kapoor has said that the Indian Gurkhas have played an crucial role in protecting and strengthening relations between the two countries; the Indian army has highly appreciated the Indian Gurkha soldiers as Gorkhalis renowned for their bravery all over the world. CoAS Kapoor has also said that currently the India army has 30,000 Gurkhas serving the nation and 100,000 former Gurkhas receiving pensions from the Government of India.

At a function, CoAS Kapoor has awarded cash to Indian Gurkhas for buying four buses and has also awarded four scooters to former Indian Gurkhas disabled due to injury in a war and has provided five children of those Gurkhas killed in a war with scholarships.

CoAS Kapoor along with Nepalese CoAS Gurung accompanied by Chief District Officer of Mustang Umesh Kumar Dhakal, and Major Purna Chandra Thapa have visited the high altitude Warfare Training School set up by the Nepalese Army at Jomsom in the Mustang District. The training school is considered one of a model military training center in the world; army personnel from various countries including India come to the center for training according to the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of January 21, 2010. CoAS Kapoor has also visited Lord Muktinath there.
