Nepal Celebrates ‘Chhatha Parva’

November 8, 2013: the Government of Nepal has announced ‘today’ an official holiday to celebrate the ‘Chhatha Parva’. So, the State offices will remain close for today.

 

Chhatha Parva is for making offerings to Chhatha Devi, and the rising sun and the setting sun. Nepalis submerging knee-deep make offerings of a wicker basketful of flowers, sweets and other puja items to the Sun God. Mostly women take fast and make offerings to the ‘Chhatha Devi’ for meeting their wishes.

 

On the occasion of celebrating the ‘Chhatha Parva’, President Dr Ram Baran Yadav has wished all Nepalis for the ‘Chhatha Devi’ making them healthy and prosperous. Vice-president Permananda Jha is holding an event at his official resident to celebrate the ‘Chhatha Parva’. Chairman of Interim Council of Ministers Khilraj Regmi also has wished the Nepalis celebrating the ‘Chhatha Parva’ for the deity meeting their wishes, and for their prosperous lives.

 

Nepalis have made offerings to the rising sun today morning. Women mostly in red saris standing waist-deep in the water of river or pond elsewhere in Nepal made offerings to the rising sun. Tomorrow, they will move to the water sources at about 4:00 PM to make offerings to the setting sun.
