Labor Minister Belbase Resigns For Alleged Corruption

October 22, 2012: an official at the office of prime minister said that Minister for Labor Kumar Belbase faxed his resignation to the office of prime minister on Saturday, October 20, 2012 following the video clip aired on Nepal TV that showed the minister’s aide asking for money from the people seeking registration of private manpower companies that deal with sending Nepalis abroad for jobs. 

Manpower companies have been thriving in Nepal with thousands of young Nepalese opting for taking jobs in the Middle East and Developed Far Eastern Countries. 

Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai ordered Labor and Employment Minister Kumar Belbase to quit the office otherwise threatened to fire him after Nepal TV aired the video clips of his aide asking the manpower agencies' representatives for hundreds of thousands of Nepalese rupees from each of them to register their companies. 

Prime Minister Dr Baburam assigned the portfolio of Labor Ministry to Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Post Bahadur Bogati. 

CPN-ML has suspended Belbase a politburo member of CPN-ML led by CP Mainali, and his aide Bhaskar Kafle also central committee member that had talked to the representatives of the manpower companies asking for money to construct a party office building. 

These poor officials asking the private companies for money ostensibly for building a party office have not only lost their jobs but also got suspended from the party membership when the Hindu Nepalis are enjoying the Dashain festival.
