Extending Time For Submitting Draft Constitution
By KTM Metro Reporter
January 30, 2012: the Constitutional Committee (CC) of the Constituent Assembly (CA) has yesterday made a decision on requesting the CA for extending the time for submitting a draft constitution for 14 days.
Following the schedule, the CC was supposed to submit a draft of a new constitution to the CA by January 29, 2012 but the CC could not do so because the UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML could not build a consensus on state restructuring and the governance system. Following the new schedule, the CC has to submit the draft of a new constitution by February 12, 2012.
After the meeting of the CC yesterday, Chairman of UCPN-Maoist has told the reporters that the CC would submit the draft of a new constitution following the new schedule; an attempt on building a consensus on the state restructuring will be made after the State Restructuring Committee submits its report on January 31, 2012; if such thing could not happen then all the disputed issues would be submitted to the CA for resolving them following its procedures, ‘gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
Deputy Chairman of Rastriya Janashakti Party Dr. Prakash Chandra Lohani has said that the irony is that all the three major political parties such as UCPN-Maoist, NC and CPN-UML agree on extending the time for drafting a new constitution but they don’t build a consensus on the disputed issues once the time is extended, ‘gorkphapatra’ of today writes.
