NC Names Sushil Koirala A Candidate For A New Prime Minister
By KTM Metro Reporter
December 5, 2012: finally, NC found out a candidate for a new prime minister in its president Sushil Koirala today. Mr. Koirala has passed through the hurdles erected by his Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel, and his rival senior leader of NC Sher Bahadur Deuba.
Whether these two guys: Poudel and Deuba really want to see Mr Koirala becoming a next prime minister remains to be seen. If these two guys help Koirala to get his candidacy endorsed by other political parties including the UCPN-Maoist, as Koirala has to be a consensus candidate following the condition set by the head of state: President Dr. Ram Baran Yadav.
As usual, the four major political forces ended their meeting held at the Lazimpt residence of Chairman of UCPN-Maoist Prachanda today without making any progress in forming a national unity government. The ruling coalition of the UCPN-Maoist and UDMF want to settle all the contentious issues concerning a new constitution before turning over the power to NC President Koirala.
After the meeting, NC Vice-president Ram Chandra Paudel told the reporters that they did not make any progress in breaking the ongoing logjam over the contentious issues, as the ruling coalition wanted an agreement on the contentious issues concerning a new constitution.
"Even if Sushil ji becomes the prime minister, country won’t get rid of the existing political deadlock and constitutional hurdles," THT ONLINE quoted Chairman of Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party Narayanman Bijukchhe as saying while speaking at an interaction program held by the Rafat Sanchar Club in Bhaktapur today. As India has always influenced the process of government formation in Nepal, the last week visit of Indian leader Karan Singh to Nepal must have played a role this time as well, according to Bijukchhe.
