International Convention on Enforced Disappearance

Issue 27, July 5, 2009

BY KTM Metro Reporter in Kathmandu

On July 1, 2009, the Amnesty International (AI) has presented a thousand of appeal letters collected from all over the world to Prime Minister Madhav Nepal urging him to ratify the International Convention on Enforced Disappearance according to the state-run newspaper ‘The Rising Nepal’ of July 2, 2009. Prime Minister Nepal has repeated his commitment to take effective actions to end impunity in Nepal. About three years ago the Supreme Court of Nepal has issued an order on setting up a commission on investigation into enforced disappearances. However, the Government of Nepal has done a little to this end so far.
