Supreme Court For Enforcing District Court Verdict

June 27, 2011: hearing on the writ petition filed by Sabitri Shrestha wife of Ujjan Kumar Shrestha, a bench of two justices Khilaraj Regmi and Kamal Narayan Das of the Supreme Court of Nepal has ruled that the court does not need to issue an interim order to the government to arrest Lawmaker Balkrishna Dungel convicted of killing Ujjan Kumar Shrestha as demanded by Sabitri Shrestha but issued an order to the government to enforce the District Court Verdict, ‘Gorkhapatra’ of today writes.
The Okhaldhunga District Court convicted Lamakeer Dungel belonging to the UCPN-Maoist of killing Ujjan Kumar Shrestha and sentenced him to 10-year imprisonment with the confiscation of his property.
The Rajbiraj Appellate Court had upturned the verdict of the Okhaldhunga District Court and released Lawmaker Dungel but the Supreme Court of Nepal upheld the ruling of the Okhaldhunga District Court, and ultimately ordered the government to enforce it.
